Minimalism in Indian painting is older than it looks. Mughal artists had a technique called nim qalam, meaning "half pen": fine drawings touched with only a hint of colour. Under Jahangir and Shah Jahan, painters also made studies of a single flower or bird, set alone against a plain page with nothing to distract from it.

Our minimal miniatures follow that thread. One elephant, a lotus or a lone figure is painted with the full detail of a traditional miniature, then given room to breathe on a quiet background. They sit easily in modern homes and never lose their roots.

The Minimal Miniatures Collection brings the craft of the courts into today's spaces, with less on the page and more to look at.
